Food For Thought
Every day, two nutritious snacks, morning and afternoon, are served in a candle-lit, sit-down family setting. Candles bring us warmth and internal light! We hold our hands (freshly washed with lavender water) for a special blessing, and give our thanks to Mother Earth.
"Earth we thank you for this food.
For rest and home and all things good.
For wind and rain and sun above.
But most of all for those we love!"
🎶 "Blessings on the blossoms
Blessings on the roots
Blessings on the leaves and stems
And blessings on the fruit." 🎶
🎶 "Bon Appétit!
It's time to eat.
Enjoy your meals.
Bon Appétit!" 🎶
Occasionaly, we enjoy wonderful picnics during warmer seasons, and warm tea and cider keep us cozy during outdoor play, in the cold seasons.
Our morning and afternoon snacks are nutritionally balanced to supply the nourishment that our little people need, by adhering to Canada’s Daily Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
Our healthy choices are nutritious, delicious, freshly prepared and home-made. Our snacks include a colorful variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, grains and legumes, constantly evolving through the seasons.
The majority of our snacks are vegan, based on clean eating and whole grains, some are glutten and sugar free, all are designed to support the children's everyday learning and overall health.
We run as a Preschool/ Pre-Primary program, with extended hours.
Parents are responsible for packing a healthy lunch to enhance our learning experience and encourage the little ones' independence for the Primary years ahead.
I will inform you of any present allergies, if any, so you can pack with caution and safety consideration of the children in our group.
Helpful tips and ideas on how to pack a lunch for your little one, are highlighted in our Parent's Handbook -available to you prior to enrollment.
We exercise our self-reliance, table manners and grace daily, by independently washing hands, setting and cleaning the table, often preparing snacks together (baking, fruit salads, garden salads, pancakes, waffles, grilled sandwiches, tea, hot cider, organic nut butters & honey roll-ups, boiled/ scrambled eggs, lemonade), as soon as each individual child shows interest and ability.
In Montessori, we call this "Life Practical Skills", a daily opportunity to building the little ones self-esteem through hands-on recognition of their capabilities.
